Unreal Engine 3, UT3 used in video game design camp

It’s been announced over press wire that Epic Games‘ Unreal Engine 3 and Unreal Tournament 3 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Windows PC) is being used to teach techie teens about video game design. iD Tech Camp, a popular youth computer camp, is currently using the engine to get teens better acquainted with design tasks and video game development.
The folks over at iD Tech Camp say that each student is getting game design training with actual hands-on development of new next-gen grade games and modifications using Unreal Engine 3 and UT3’s Unreal Editor. They are also taught the essence of level design for first-person shooters, and some of them are targeted for UT3.
“We provide an environment where instruction is personalized and fluid,” said Pete Ingram-Cauchi, iD Tech Camp’s CEO. He explained later that training is done with smaller, more manageable groups to allow more interpersonal instructions between an instructor and groups of six or seven students.
As an added note, Unreal Tournament 3 has become a curriculum for both the iD Tech Camp and the iD Gaming Academy, thus being one of their staple programs for training gaming enthusiasts who want to do more than just game. Though this may mean there’s a plethora of mods coming for Unreal Tournament 3 players out there, will they be better in caliber? We’ll find out when the mods release for both the PS3 and PC.
